Camden County police recently arrested a local man who was allegedly in possession of a loaded handgun and drugs.
The arrest stemmed from an altercation at the 7-Eleven located at 3620 Federal Street in Camden, New Jersey.
According to authorities, the 19-year-old suspect got into an argument with a woman inside the convenience store sometime during the afternoon. A Camden County police officer responded to the scene after the police department got a call about a disturbance. The officer investigated and learned that both the man and the woman had already left the store.
The police officer searched the area and eventually located the suspect near the intersection of 36th Street and Rosedale Avenue. When the officer found the suspect, he was reportedly in possession of a loaded 9mm Taurus PT709 handgun, as well as illegal drugs and more than $1,200 in cash.
The suspect was placed under arrest and charged with a number of criminal offenses, including unlawful possession of a weapon, certain persons not to possess weapons, and possession of a controlled dangerous substance (CDS).The suspect was also charged with receiving stolen property because the handgun had allegedly been reported stolen out of Hazelton, Pennsylvania.
According to police, the suspect has a prior conviction for drug distribution in New Jersey.
After being arrested and processed, the suspect was transported to the Camden County Jail. He is being held at the correctional facility in lieu of $170,000 bail.
