Camden County law enforcement is investigating a recent shooting death on a street in Camden, New Jersey.
The homicide represents the 26th murder to occur in Camden NJ so far in 2016. The victim was a 15-year-old boy who lived in Camden, NJ.
According to Camden officials, the homicide occurred on the 1200 block of Mechanic Street. The Camden County Police Department dispatched police officers to the area after receiving a 911 call about gunshots being fired.
When police got to the scene of the shooting, they came across the victim. The shooting victim was lying on the pavement and suffering from a serious gunshot wound.
Emergency medical responders briefly treated the victim at the scene and then rushed him to nearby Cooper University Hospital, where doctors tried valiantly to save his life. Tragically, there was nothing doctors could do for the victim; he was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the medical facility.
Meanwhile, Camden County police quickly identified a suspect in the fatal shooting: a 15-year-old boy who resides in Camden, New Jersey. Police arrested the suspect and took him to police headquarters for processing.
The suspect faces multiple criminal charges, including aggravated manslaughter. At this time, the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office has not indicated whether the suspect will be tried as an adult or a juvenile.
After being processed, the suspect was remanded to the Juvenile Detention Center in Lakeland, New Jersey.
