A man from Clementon was arraigned Tuesday in connection to a stabbing that took place last week.
The incident occurred last week when a fight broke out among several males at the Pine Hill Apartment Complex. According to police, multiple witnesses allegedly observed the defendant, Antonio Wright, get into a fight with the victim and subsequently pointed to a photo of him as the killer. Reports state that Wright stabbed the victim then ran away from the scene. After police responded to the scene, they found the victim, bleeding in the parking lot of the complex. He was then transported to Kennedy Memorial Hospital but died around 10:30 p.m.
Wright turned himself into police earlier this week and his bail was set at $750,000. He was charged with aggravated manslaughter as a result of the incident. Aggravated manslaughter in New Jersey is defined as recklessly causes death under circumstances manifesting extreme indifference to human life. Manslaughter is generally a second degree crime in New Jersey, however, when a person is charged with aggravated manslaughter it is upgraded to a first degree crime. A conviction for this crime carries a more severe penalty than most other first degree offenses as it can result in 10 to 30 years in New Jersey State Prison. It is also included under the No Early Release Act meaning 85 percent of the sentence must be served before parole eligibility.
