Police recently arrested a man accused of robbing a bank in Gloucester Township, New Jersey.
According to Camden County prosecutors, the 38-year-old suspect walked into the Beneficial Bank located on Berlin-Cross Keys Road and committed a robbery.
The suspect reportedly approached a teller and handed her a note demanding money. After the teller gave the suspect an unspecified amount of cash, the suspect reportedly ran out of the bank and fled the scene.
The Camden County Prosecutor’s Office and the Gloucester Township Police Department conducted a joint investigation. The suspect, who is from Deptford NJ, was eventually identified as the likely culprit. Investigators also linked the suspect to the robbery of Fulton Bank in Deptford NJ on October 23 and the attempted robbery of a Bank of America branch in Monroe, New Jersey.
Sometime after being identified by police, the suspect showed up at the Gloucester County Sheriff’s Department and surrendered to authorities.
The suspect has been charged with two counts of robbery, as well as one count of attempted robbery.
If the suspect is ultimately convicted on any of the robbery charges, he faces severe penalties. As set forth by N.J.S.A. 2C: 15-1, a person who commits a theft while threatening anyone can be charged with a second degree felony. A conviction for second degree robbery could lead to a sentence of 5-10 years in NJ State Prison.
After being taken into police custody and processed, the suspect was remanded to the Salem County Correctional Facility. He is being held on $225,000 bail.
