Gloucester Township police are searching for the suspect in a thwarted burglary attempt.
According to law enforcement, a man attempted to commit a break-in at a home located in the Erial section of Gloucester Township, New Jersey. The burglary was foiled by a resident who screamed and scared off the suspect.
The suspect, described as an unknown white male, drove an SUV in the Clementon section of Erial, NJ. Officials said that the vehicle might have been a Nissan Rogue.
The suspect reportedly parked the SUV on a dead-end street and then exited the vehicle. He allegedly walked through a park/lake area and then tried to enter a nearby home.
A statement issued by the police department noted that the suspect was surprised to realize that “the resident was home.”
The suspect was frightened by the suspect’s presence and immediately ran back to his parked SUV. He then drove away and fled the area.
Gloucester Township NJ police are actively investigating the attempted theft. At this time, authorities have not identified the suspect in the case.
Surveillance video footage of the suspect at the scene of the alleged crime was recently posted on the Gloucester Township Police Department’s official Facebook page. Investigators hope that members of the public will be able to recognize the suspect and provide authorities with information.
If the suspect is identified and apprehended, he would be subject to severe penalties. As set forth by N.J.S.A. 2C:18-2, burglary is typically classified as a third degree felony. A conviction on third degree burglary charges can result in a sentence of 3-5 years in New Jersey State Prison.
