A driver reportedly crashed his vehicle on a Winslow Township NJ road while overdosing on heroin.
According to authorities, the suspect was behind the wheel of a pickup truck when he lost control of the vehicle and crossed over the center line before slamming into a couple of trees off Spring Garden Road in Winslow Township, New Jersey. The truck eventually came to a stop and overturned, across the street from Ancora Hospital.
Other motorists dialed 911 and notified the Winslow Township Police Department of the accident. When Winslow NJ police officers arrived at the scene of the crash, they found the suspect’s pickup truck with the suspect unconscious inside the vehicle.
Law enforcement believed that the suspect was overdosing on heroin, so they administered Narcan (also known as naloxone). After being revived, the suspect was transported to Virtua Health Systems, which is located in Voorhees, NJ.
Winslow police said that the suspect was seen clutching two empty bags that had been used to package heroin. A search of the suspect’s vehicle allegedly turned up 23 bags of heroin and two hypodermic syringes.
As a result, the suspect, a 23-year-old man who lives in Hammonton NJ, faces criminal charges for possession with intent to distribute heroin, possession of hypodermic syringes, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Additionally, the suspect has been cited for multiple traffic offenses.
