An Atco NJ man has been sentenced to 98 years in state prison for a string of armed robberies throughout Camden County, New Jersey.
The 29-year-old suspect lived in Atco, an unincorporated community in Waterford Township, NJ. He was accused of committing violent armed robberies across Camden County in 2011.
One of the thefts occurred at a Cherry Hill home, where the suspect and an accomplice broke into the residence and used zip ties to restrain two teenage girls. When the victims’ parents arrived home, the suspects tied them up as well and then robbed the family. During the robbery, the suspects reportedly brandished firearms.
Another robbery was committed at a residence in Winslow Township, NJ. According to Camden County prosecutors, the suspect and an accomplice used a weapon to assault the victim and then stole cash and a car.
The suspect committed a third robbery at a Winslow Township house, where he tied up the residents and stole approximately $60,000 in cash.
Camden County police investigated the theft incidents and were eventually able to identify the suspect by using DNA evidence and cellphone evidence.
On December 17, 2015, the suspect was convicted by a Camden County Superior Court jury on two counts of first degree robbery, three counts of first degree kidnapping, one count of second degree conspiracy, one count of second degree burglary, and various weapons offenses.
The suspect recently appeared in Camden County Superior Court for a formal sentencing hearing. The superior court judge sentenced the suspect to a term of 98 years behind bars for the armed robberies and threat crimes. The suspect will have to serve more than 66 years in state prison before he becomes eligible for release on parole.
Meanwhile, the suspect’s accomplice in the robberies was convicted of robbery and sentenced to 15 years in New Jersey State Prison.
