Police in Pine Hill NJ are asking for the public’s assistance in determining the identity of a man accused of stealing a senior citizen’s purse from a local convenience store.
The theft incident went down around 9:00 a.m. at a Wawa store located at 917 Erial Road in Pine Hill Borough, New Jersey. According to authorities, the suspect entered the Wawa and waited for a chance to commit the theft.
The victim, an elderly woman, momentarily left her purse on the counter at the front of the store. That’s when the suspect allegedly moved toward the counter, snatched the purse, and then quickly exited the store. Once the suspect got to the parking lot, he reportedly entered a motor vehicle and drove off.
The Pine Hill Police Department was notified of the theft and sent officers to the scene to investigate. Officers looked at video surveillance footage and identified the getaway vehicle as a Mazda MX-6.
At this time, police have yet to identify the suspect. If police can eventually identify and apprehend the theft suspect, he would likely face severe criminal penalties. As set forth by N.J.S.A. 2C:20-3, theft of movable property valued at between $200 and $500 is classified as a fourth degree felony. A conviction on fourth degree theft charges could result in a sentence of up to 18 months in New Jersey State Prison.
