Law enforcement has arrested a man accused of fatally shooting his wife at their residence in Stratford, New Jersey.
According to Camden County prosecutors, the 33-year-old suspect got into an argument with his 35-year-old wife at their home on Wright Avenue in Stratford, NJ. The argument allegedly escalated and the victim ended up being shot and killed.
Camden County NJ police officers were later asked to conduct a welfare check at the residence. When police arrived at the home, they found the victim dead in the couple’s bedroom.
Camden County police conducted an investigation and spoke with the suspect’s family members. Investigators reportedly learned that the suspect dropped off his young daughter at a relative’s home in Lindenwold NJ a short time after the killing.
Investigators also said that they learned that the suspect and the victim were having “marital difficulties” prior to the homicide.
Authorities eventually tracked down the suspect in Alexandria, Virginia and placed him under arrest.
The suspect has been charged with first degree murder. As set forth by N.J.S.A. 2C:11-3, first degree murder carries a potential penalty of life imprisonment. Additionally, a murder conviction could result in a minimum mandatory term of incarceration of 30 years in NJ State Prison.
After being arrested and processed, the suspect was being held in a Virginia jail. An extradition hearing was scheduled for a later date, after which the suspect would likely be transported back to Camden County, New Jersey.
