Police arrested a man, Timothy Kanty, from Camden who was allegedly in possession of drugs and a weapon earlier this week.
Three officers were responding to reports of a man in a green shirt threatening people with a gun on North Dudley Ave when they spotted Kanty, who matched the description. When the officers approached Kanty and ordered him to stop, he fled on foot through Dudley Grange Park. Eventually, one of the officers was able to catch Kanty. Police allegedly found him to be in possession of drugs and a stolen gun and subsequently charged him with possession of a weapon during a CDS offense, unlawful possession of a weapon, certain persons not to have weapons, receiving stolen property, possession with intent to distribute, possession with intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of a school, possession with intent to distribute within 500 feet of a park and resisting arrest.
If convicted of these charges, Kanty could face an extremely long prison term, depending on how he is sentenced. Since he was found with 100 Xanax pills, the drug charges alone are a second degree crime that can result in 5 to 10 years in New Jersey State Prison and fines of up to $300,000. The fact that he fled and was found with a a weapon illegally could add even more years onto the term if he is convicted and serves the terms consecutively.
