Gloucester Township NJ police are looking for a man who allegedly robbed a local bank shortly after it opened for the day.
According to authorities, the suspect walked into the Beneficial Bank located on Berlin-Cross Keys Road in Gloucester Township, New Jersey. The suspect then allegedly approached a bank teller and handed the teller a note which demanded money.
The teller reportedly gave the suspect an undisclosed amount of cash. At that point, the suspect exited the bank and fled on foot toward the Chick-Fil-A restaurant located on nearby Cross Keys Road.
Gloucester Township police arrived at the scene a short time later. Police officers canvassed the area looking for the suspect; however, they were unable to find him.
Witnesses provided police with descriptions of the suspect. According to witnesses, the suspect is a white male between the ages of 20 and 30. He reportedly has dark facial hair. At the time of the robbery, he was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, a dark coat, dark pants, and black and white sneakers. He also wore a wool knit cap over his head.
The Gloucester Township Police Department is actively investigating the alleged theft. At this time, details on the robbery are scant.
If police are eventually able to identify and apprehended the suspect, he would be subject to significant penalties. That’s because N.J.S.A. 2C:15-1 typically classifies robbery as a second degree felony.
