A Sicklerville NJ man was recently indicted on armed robbery charges.
According to law enforcement, the 25-year-old suspect committed the robbery in July. The suspect was reportedly driving on Shady Brooke Lane in Logan Township, accompanied by a casual acquaintance. Both the suspect and the victim reportedly lived at the Mayfair Motel in Sicklerville, New Jersey.
While the suspect drove the car, he allegedly took out a knife and placed it to the victim’s throat. The suspect then allegedly demanded that the victim hand over cash.
The suspect reportedly managed to get the victim’s wallet, which contained more than $200. According to the victim, the suspect then exited the vehicle and ran into a wooded area.
The victim contacted Logan Township police, which dispatched police officers to the scene. Police officers arrived on the scene a short time later and searched the area for the suspect. Police eventually located the suspect and placed him under arrest.
Now the suspect has been indicted on the robbery charges by a Gloucester County grand jury. Additionally, the grand jury indicted the suspect on charges of theft of movable property and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
If the suspect is convicted on the armed robbery charges, he faces severe penalties. As set forth by N.J.S.A. 2C:15-1, anyone who uses a deadly weapon such as a handgun or knife while committing a theft can be charged with a first degree crime. A conviction for first degree armed robbery could result in a sentence of 10-20 years in NJ State Prison.
