Stratford NJ police arrested a Lindenwold man who is accused of driving drunk and possessing a large quantity of heroin.
The arrest was made after a traffic stop which was initiated around 2:30 a.m. The 22-year-old suspect, who lives in Lindenwold NJ, was observed speeding in a 2009 Buick Lucerne near Warwick Road and Temple Avenue in Stratford, New Jersey. The suspect was allegedly clocked driving 54 mph in a 35-mph-zone. Additionally, the Stratford traffic cop who made the traffic stop reportedly saw that the suspect’s car had a headlight out.
While speaking with the suspect, the patrol officer reportedly observed that the suspect was intoxicated.
A subsequent search of the suspect’s car allegedly led to the discovery of 560 pouches of heroin in the vehicle glove box. Police allegedly found another 77 pouches of heroin in a secret compartment in the car’s dashboard. According to officials, the heroin seized from the suspect’s vehicle has a street value of roughly $10,000.
The suspect has been charged with multiple crimes, including first degree distribution of heroin and intent to distribute heroin in a school zone. Beyond that, the suspect was charged with Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) and Refusal to Submit to a Breath Test.
If the suspect is convicted on the most serious charges of heroin distribution, he faces severe penalties. As set forth by N.J.S.A. 2C:35-5, anyone caught possessing with intent to distribute more than five ounces of heroin can potentially be sentenced to 10-20 years in New Jersey State Prison.
After being arrested and processed, the suspect was taken to the Camden County Jail. He was being held at the jail in lieu of a $90K bail amount.
