Two men from Clementon have been arrested on drug charges in Pine Hill.
A police officer from Pine Hill noticed a suspicious vehicle while out on patrol the night of the arrest. As he approached the vehicle, the suspects drive away. The officer then gathered information from the area and suspected the two men in the car were allegedly trying to sell heroin. The vehicle was seen by another officer shortly after that night and was pulled over. The first man, Maurice Wiliams, was arrested for hindering his own arrest and possession of marijuana. The officers then brought in a K9 to detect possible drugs in the car. The subsequent search of the car allegedly resulted in the finding of ecstasy. The other man, Torrey Boyce, was arrested for possession of MDMA. Further, after a search of him at the station, the police also allegedly found bags of heroin.
If Boyce is convicted of these possession charges, he could receive a prison sentence of 3 to 5 years since possession of heroin is a third degree crime in New Jersey. Further penalties could include community service, and a 2 year license suspension. However, if the heroin charge is upgraded to possession with intent to distribute, he could be charged with a first degree crime which can result in 10 to 20 years in State Prison with a presumption of incarceration and a $500,000 fine. Williams,on the other hand, will likely be facing just third or fourth degree charges for hindering his own apprehension meaning a conviction could result in up to 5 years in State Prison.
