Pennsauken New Jersey police recently arrested two people and seized a large quantity of illegal drugs and guns.
Police began a lengthy investigation after receiving information about narcotics activity in Pennsauken, NJ. The investigation culminated in police conducting a raid at a home located on Rosemont Avenue.
Police officers with the Pennsauken Police Department worked with the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office Suburban Narcotics Task Force. Both departments sent officers to the suspects’ home during the early morning hours.
Once police were inside the residence, they allegedly discovered 5 ounces of cocaine, a number of prescription pills, and more than $32,000 in cash. Additionally, law enforcement also reportedly found two handguns and one shotgun inside the house.
After conducting the raid and seizing the drugs and weapons, Pennsauken police placed two residents under arrest. The suspects, a 43-year-old man and a 55-year-old woman, have both been charged with multiple criminal offenses, including possession with intent to distribute cocaine, possession with intent to distribute Oxycontin, possession with intent to distribute Xanax, and unlawful possession of a weapon.
The suspects have also been charged with endangering the welfare of a child because police allegedly learned that a 2-year-old child lives in the residence.
If the suspects are ultimately convicted on the cocaine distribution charges, they could be subject to significant penalties. As set forth by N.J.S.A. 2C:35-5, anyone who is found to be in possession of more than 5 ounces of cocaine with the intent distribute or dispense the drug can be charged with a first degree felony. A conviction on first degree cocaine distribution charges could result in a sentence of 10-20 years in New Jersey State Prison.
After being arrested and charged, the suspects were transported to the Camden County Jail. They are each being held at the correctional facility in lieu of separate $400,000 bail amounts.
