Police recently arrested two people who allegedly stole watches from a department store at the Cherry Hill Mall in Cherry Hill Township, New Jersey.
Although the theft incident reportedly occurred in January, the suspects were not arrested and charged until February.
According to authorities, the two suspects used a key to gain access to a display case at the Nordstrom store in the Cherry Hill Mall. The suspects then allegedly snatched three watches from the display case.
Police believe that one of the suspects concealed the watches on their person. The two suspects then allegedly walked out of the department store and exited the mall.
Nordstrom employees reported the theft to the Cherry Hill Police Department. Police conducted an investigation and eventually determined that the suspects stole the watches.
The two suspects are reportedly from Bridgeton, New Jersey. Police located both suspects and placed them under arrest.
The suspects have been charged with theft of movable property and conspiracy to commit theft.
If the suspects are convicted on the theft charges, they would face significant penalties. As set forth by N.J.S.A. 2C:20-3, the penalties for theft of movable property are determined by the value of the stolen items. If the watches in this case had a value greater than $500, the suspects could potentially be subject to sentences of 3–5 years in NJ State Prison.
