The locker rooms of two gyms in Mount Laurel were hit by thieves on Tuesday. It has not been determined yet if the thefts are related according to police. However, the two gyms are only a mile away from each other and the crimes occurred within the same hour.The thieves broke into several lockers in the gyms taking both cash and credit cards.
If apprehended by police, the thieves could be charged with theft of movable property and possibly burglary. Burglary is committed when a person, with the intent to commit an offense therein, he or she enters a research facility, structure, or a separately secured or occupied portion thereof unless the structure was at the time open to the public or the actor is licensed or privileged to enter. Burglary in this case would be a third degree crime meaning a conviction would result in 3 to 5 years in New Jersey State Prison. The theft of movable property charge on the other hand is a fourth degree crime punishable by 18 months in New Jersey State Prison.
