Camden County NJ police arrested man linked to a South Brunswick robbery which occurred nearly 13 years ago.
The 32-year-old Jersey City man was driving in Camden County NJ when a patrol officer stopped the suspect’s vehicle. After the officer ran the suspect’s information, he realized that the suspect was wanted for the more-than-a-decade-old jewelry heist.
The robbery allegedly occurred in August 2002. The suspect is accused of breaking into a house on Liberty Drive in South Brunswick, New Jersey.
Once inside the house, the suspect allegedly stole three gold-and-diamond necklaces, one gold-and-diamond ring, and one gold-and-black ring. According to authorities, the stolen items were valued at more than $5,500.
A South Brunswick NJ patrolman and evidence technician processed the crime scene and came away with several fingerprints. The fingerprints were then sent to the New Jersey State Police for further analysis.
It wasn’t until July 2014, nearly 12 years later, that the crime was reportedly solved. A detective learned that the fingerprints taken from the home allegedly matched the suspect’s fingerprints. The detective then spoke with residents of the home; they reportedly recalled the suspect visiting the house at the time of the burglary.
After being placed under arrest in Camden County, the suspect was taken to the Middlesex County Jail in lieu of $5,000 bail. He has been charged with third degree theft. If he is convicted on the third degree theft charges, he could be subject to a sentence of 3–5 years in New Jersey State Prison.
