A new K9 cop with the Camden County Police Department recently made its first arrest.
According to authorities, the incident occurred at a local gas station. Two Camden NJ police officers were on patrol at night when they reportedly observed a man taking part in illegal drug activity and dealing drugs at a gas station. Police said that the gas station is located on Mount Ephraim Avenue and Kaighn Avenue in Camden, New Jersey.
When the police officers approached the suspect, he allegedly ran from the gas station and tried to flee the scene on foot.
As the police officers chased the suspect, another Camden officer joined the pursuit. Importantly, the other officer had Fios, a member of the Camden K9 unit, with him at the time.
The officers, with assistance from Fios, eventually caught the suspect and placed him under arrest.
The suspect, who reportedly lives in Camden NJ, has been charged with a number of drug offenses, including possession of marijuana and loitering to commit a controlled dangerous substance (CDS) offense. Additionally, the suspect has been charged with resisting arrest and obstruction of justice.
After being arrested and charged, the suspect was released from police custody. He has a pending court date.
This was the first arrest made by Fios, one of five new dogs to join the Camden County Police Department after recently graduating from the Camden County Police Academy’s K9 patrol class.
