Lindenwold NJ police arrested a man who was allegedly breaking into unlocked vehicles and committing burglaries.
Shortly before midnight, the Lindenwold Police Department received a report of a man entering several unlocked cars in the parking lot of the Georgetown Condominium Complex on Dover Drive. When police got to the scene, they saw the 50-year-old suspect sitting inside a parked car. According to the officers, the suspect was in the process of burglarizing the vehicle.
Police investigated further and later placed the suspect under arrest without incident.
A subsequent investigation revealed that the suspect allegedly entered, and stole from, two other vehicles parked nearby. Police officers reportedly found him in possession of a number of items taken from the other cars.
The suspect, who lives in Camden NJ, has been charged with three counts of burglary and three counts of theft of movable property.
If the suspect is convicted on the burglary charges, he would be subject to stiff penalties. As set forth by N.J.S.A. 2C:18-2, burglary is classified as a third degree felony. A conviction on third degree burglary charges could result in a sentence of 3-5 years in New Jersey State Prison.
After being arrested and charged with the thefts, the suspect was transported to the Camden County Jail. He is being held at the correctional facility in lieu of $150,000 bail.
The Lindenwold Police Department has issued a notice to local residents and warned them to make sure that their cars are locked. Additionally, police advised Lindenwold residents to not leave any valuables inside their cars.
