Logan Township New Jersey police recently arrested a Camden NJ man accused of driving a stolen car.
According to law enforcement, the 26-year-old suspect was caught with the stolen vehicle while driving on Center Square Road in Logan Township, New Jersey.
A patrol officer reportedly pulled over the suspect’s vehicle, a 2002 Mazda, and ran a license plate check. When the car showed up as stolen out of Camden NJ, the officer arrested the suspect.
During a subsequent search of the vehicle, police allegedly discovered a small amount of marijuana.
The suspect has been charged with receiving stolen property and simple possession of marijuana.
Additionally, the suspect has been charged with obstruction of justice and lewdness because he allegedly acted inappropriately while being arrested and processed by police.
If the suspect is ultimately convicted on the receiving stolen property charges, he could be subject to significant penalties. As set forth by N.J.S.A. 2C:20-7a, receiving stolen property can be classified as a second degree, third degree, or fourth degree felony. The exact charges depend upon the value of the item stolen. In this case, the suspect could potentially be sentenced to up to 5 years in NJ State Prison if the value of the vehicle is more than $500.
After being placed under arrest and charged, the suspect was taken to the Salem County Correctional Facility. He is being held at the jail in lieu of $25,000 bail.
